CAR dealers who dump unwanted cars on the streets of Bromley are being lined up for prosecution as part of a new crackdown.
Bromley Council's most recent successes include a case against Copers Cope Ford car dealers, in Penge High Street, which appeared at Bromley Magistrates' Court on May 29.
The dealership was fined £100 and ordered to pay costs of £250 for dumping an untaxed car which it had received in part exchange for another vehicle.
Finance company Credit Acceptance, based in West Sussex, appeared before Bromley magistrates on June 5 for failing to collect an abandoned vehicle parked in a country lane without road tax.
After pleading guilty, the company was fined £300, instructed to pay £105 to Bromley Council towards the cost of removing the car and ordered to pay £250 costs.
Councillor George Taylor, cabinet member for the environment, said: "These prosecutions should send a very clear message we simply will not tolerate anyone dumping cars."
Recent changes to legislation enables the council to issue 24-hour warning notices for untaxed vehicles of little or no value before they are removed for destruction.
