In the News Shopper (13 January) I read an abridged version of David Yeates' original letter to your paper. Obviously his comments were directed at an earlier letter of mine. Unfortunately, he completely missed the point.

Contrary to Mr Yeates' assumption, I am not against road traffic calming measures. But I do believe in a democratic process whereby a proper consultation is carried out with all relevant people and not just a few chosen residents, also the proper advertising of proposed projects by the council. This was not the case in Watts Lane/Manor Park Road. Hence my comment, Chislehurst beware! I still question whether the road warrants 12 various traffic calming measures (16 originally) in a road barely 300 yards long.

Incidentally, campaigners - mostly residents adjacent to those roads - were not trying to put a stop to the council's road calming measures but, putting forward a viable alternative and cheaper way of achieving this aim.
