BIGGIN HILL & WESTERHAM LIONS CLUB
Biggin Hill & Westerham Lions Club recently presented a cheque for £1100 to Demelza House Children's Hospice. This was the amount raised by a 'bucket shake' by the Club in Safeway Biggin Hill on Christmas Eve.
Lion President David Fairhurst presented the cheque and said 'We are very grateful to Safeway for allowing us to collect in the store on Xmas Eve and were delighted by the generosity of the shoppers.'
Demelza House is a cause close to the heart of Biggin Hill & Westerham Lions Club and other Lions Clubs. Many Lions and Lioness Clubs in the South East contributed towards the £4 million raised to build, equip and open the Hospice in 1998.
Shirley Spencer, Area Fundraising Manager for Demalza House said "Demelza House Children's Hospice receives no government funding and therefore relies on voluntary donations. We are extremely appreciative of this donation made by the Lions of Biggin Hill and Westerham. At present, up to 300 families in this area use Demelza House for palliative and respite care. It is not uncommon to hear a parent say "without Demelza House we would not have a place to go to in order to recharge our batteries". On behalf of these families I would like to say thank you to the Lions for their marvellous efforts and continued support."
