Highway authorities have vowed to take action to prevent another failed repair to one of the district's biggest potholes.
Recent work in Brook Road, Buckhurst Hill, saw one a pothole big enough to fit a highway hero such as myself finally filled, but less than two weeks later it’s back!
The work in Brook Road was completed on December 4, but the hole re-appeared on December 16, albeit marginally smaller than its previous size.
When questioned, Essex Highways revealed it does not check the quality of a road rut repair other than by looking at a photograph.
When asked how long a repair should last, an Essex County Council spokesman said: “A repair to a carriageway defect will last a significant period of time."
In this case “significant” was 12 days.
The statement continued: “There are factors that will determine this time-period such as road usage, whether the repair is at a junction or turning point, the condition of the surrounding carriageway, the original construction of the carriageway and whether the area is susceptible to flooding."
