A photography competition set up in honour of a man who recorded the changing face of Woodford is accepting entries.

The Reg Fowkes photographic competition was set up in memory of Mr Fowkes’ by his daughter Pat Smith in 1995.

The competition raises money for St Mary’s Church in South Woodford where Mr Fowkes, who died at the age of 80 in 1994, worshipped.

He was president of the Woodford and Wanstead Photographic Society and provided local libraries with photographs of the area as well as working on books detailing the changing face of Woodford.

Mrs Smith, 60, of Parkway in Woodford Green, said: “He always had a camera with him.

“I have many memories of being on holiday as a child and mum saying ‘We must get the children to the beach now’ but he always wanted to wait until the light was just right for a picture.”

Mrs Smith took a break from organising the competition last year.

She said: “We got 190 entries in 2011 and it takes a lot of hard work to deal with everything, so I decided to take a year off.

“But we’re back now and I’m looking forward to seeing some fantastic photographs.”

Entry to the completion costs £1 for adults or 50p for children aged 6-14.

There are four categories: Landscapes/Seascapes, Action, Nature and Snaps.

Cash prizes are on offer for the best entries in each category as well a people's favourite award And the overall winner will take home the Reg Fowkes Memorial Shield.

Photographs should be unframed and no bigger 26cmx30cm with pictures entered in the Snaps category no bigger than 15cm x 10cm.
