Hainault fire station is no longer threatened with closure as the London Fire Brigade looks to save £28.8million over the next two years.

The station in New North Road was placed on a list of 30 fire stations in the capital which could have closed.

But the London Fire Brigade the Draft Fifth London Safety Plan released today does not include shutting down the station.

Three fire stations in neighbouring borough Waltham Forest will lose a fire engine each.

Stations on the revised closure list include Bow, Kensington and Westminster.

However, four stations across London - Hendon, Orpington, Stanmore and Twickenham - will gain an additional fire engine.

Under the proposals the brigade is aiming to maintain its existing response times of the first fire engine getting to an emergency within six minutes and the second fire engine within eight minutes.

The cost-cutting plans are due to be discussed by members of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority on January 21, with a final decision made on June 20 after a public consultation.
