Voting for the UK Youth Parliament will take place at schools across Redbridge after a shortlist of 47 was whittled down to 10 candidates.

The candidates, who all attend Redbridge schools, have written their own manifestos and will be campaigning on issues including leisure provision for young people and career development.

The elections will take place between Februiary 4 -14, with the two candidates who secure the most votes winning election as MYPs and the third and fourth candidates named as their deputies.

The Youth Parliament is a national charity which enables young people to use their energy and passion to change the world for the better.

It has 600 elected MPs who organise events and projects, run campaigns and talk to decision makers.

The Youth MPs will also regularly attend Redbridge Youth Council which represents the views of young people across the Borough.

Councillor Alan Weinberg, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “Following a consultation with Redbridge Youth Council, Redbridge Council has ploughed back nearly £700,000 into the youth services budget from its original savings proposals.

“This shows the Youth Council has real teeth and is not just a talking shop.”
