An audience of Women’s Institute members will get the lowdown on street gardening from an expert in the field.

Marian Temple of the Wanstead Society has been looking after the garden at the Alan Burgess Centre (formerly called the Corner House) in High Street for nearly 10 years.

She will give a talk on gardening in streets and other public places to members and guests of the Wanstead WI in Christ Church Hall, Wanstead Place on February 21.

She said: “Helping out with gardens in the community is wonderful.

“Everyone on the high street loves the garden at the Corner House and although we work on it once a month for a few hours, I’m always stopping off to do a bit of work on it.”

The WI talk is open to women of all ages. Entry is £3 but booking is essential. Email wanstead-wi@hotmail.co.uk to confirm your place.

Anyone who wants to volunteer to help with the garden at the Alan Burgess Centre should leave a note for Marian with their contact details at the centre or email info@wansteadsociety.org.uk
