A couple found dead in their home have been named.

Alfred Stringer, believed to be in his late 60s and his partner Eileen Knight, believed to be in her 80s, were found dead in the home they shared in Greenwood Gardens, Hainault, on Sunday at around 11am by police.

Their deaths are not being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem carried out on Monday found they died of natural causes.

Residents in the street described the couple as the perfect neighbours.

George Purcell, 77, lived opposite the couple since 1961.

He said: “It is a bit of a shock for the road.

“They were a lovely couple and it is sad that this has happened.”

A police spokesman said: “Police are treating the incident as non-suspicious. There was no third party involvement.

“Enquiries are under way regarding the female as an elimination process.”

Next of kin have been informed.
