A toddler diagnosed with leukaemia last August is on the road to recovery after doctors told her parents she is 97 per cent towards a complete cure.

Two-year-old Yasmin Parsons who lives with her mum and dad and baby brother Isaac in Danbury Way, Woodford Green has been undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital after being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma (ALL).

Mum Karen said: “We are not out of the woods yet and we won’t relax until the treatment finishes in October 2014.

“But to hear that she is 97 per cent of the way to a full cure was a massive relief.”

Yasmin still has to have daily oral chemo treatment at home and regular hospital appointments.

But she is now well enough to have started at nursery school and is beginning to enjoy the sort of fun activities that other toddlers take for granted.

Dad Andrew said: “I took her to a birthday party a few days ago.

“She was a bit nervous at first because she has been with us constantly for the last six months of treatment.

“But she soon got into it. It was great to see her running around with the other kids looking so happy and well.”

Although Yasmin is well on the road to recovery, her parents have to keep a close eye on her.

Dad Andrew had to rush her to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning after she developed a high temperature.

That meant the duo were away from mum Karen for most of Mother’s Day.

Karen said: “She’s been really well for the past six weeks so it was very stressful on Sunday.

“I stayed at home with Isaac but it was difficult not to have Yasmin with me on Mother’s Day.

“She was back home by 6pm with a big bunch of flowers for me, which was amazing.”

The family launched an appeal to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and have raised an incredible £25,000 so far.

Andrew said: “It’s an amazing place. When we go there now, Yasmin just runs straight to the playroom.

“The staff know her and she knows them. Whenever you walk in you just say to yourself ‘Thank God my child is being looked after here.’”
