The lawyer representing a controversial nightclub has walked out of a hearing which will decide its future.

David Dadds said Funky Mojoe in High Road, South Woodford, could not get a fair hearing after his request to adjourn the licence review was rejected.

He requested a two-week delay on the grounds that documents were not delivered to his office in time for him to prepare before going on holiday and the font used on a public notice announcing the review was too small.

Mr Dadds also said CCTV evidence was illegal because the camera was "covertly" pointed on the club.

Earlier he argued the hearing should be postponed until tomorrow as the club's manager, Kerry O'Reilly, had been involved in a traffic accident as she made her way to the town hall.

As both requests were rejected, Mr Dadds took the unusual step of immediately leaving the room.

The review has now started without any representative from Funky Mojoe.

A dossier of evidence detailing violence and disorder associated with the club has been published as evidence for the committee, which could revoke its licence.

Neighbours have long complained about disruption from club customers.
