Vans with adverts encouraging illegal immigrants to leave the country are set to be driven through Redbridge.
The Home Office said the £10,000 scheme provided an alternative to criminal procedures and will see leaflets, posters and newspaper adverts calling on people in the country illegally to return home.
The adverts, which will also be publicised in Brent, Barnet, Hounslow, Barking and Dagenham and Ealing, will include the slogan 'Go Home or Face Arrest' and a number people can text to arrange their travel.
Critics claim the move could be divisive in mutlicultural communities.
The government said the policy was cost-effective and areas were chosen because they had significantly high or below average levels of voluntary returns.
The start date for the campaign has not been announced.
