School pupils received a swimming lesson today from British Olympic and Commonwealth swimmer Adam Whitehead.

The lesson, taught to Wanstead High School pupils, was part of a project set up at a new temporary pool on the grounds of Wanstead Leisure Centre car park in Redbridge Lane West which will be open for 12 weeks.

The project is aiming to teach at least 1,000 children to swim in 12 weeks after research from the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) reported that only 31 per cent of children finishing primary school in the borough can swim 25 metres unaided.
