Dr Paul Doherty to run Catholic and Jewish schools at same time
The headteacher of a catholic school has been put in temporary charge of a King Solomon High School following the suspension of disgraced head Jo Shuter.
Dr Paul Doherty will run both Trinity Catholic High School in Mornington Road, Woodford Green, and the Barkingside Jewish free school.
Ms Shuter was banned from teaching for life but was only suspended from King Solomon as she has the right to appeal the decision by the National College for Teaching and Leadership.
Dr Doherty, who has been headteacher at Trinity for 30 years and earned an OBE for services to education in 2012, wrote to parents today to confirm the appointment and he will take over on Monday.
He said: "I will insist on the highest possible standards in every aspect of school life. As regards the student body: proper uniform, full attendance, punctuality, excellent conduct and a true commitment to learning.
“I expect the teaching and learning process to be of the highest possible standard. There is absolutely no negotiation over these crucial issues.
“All I can do is assure you that I will do my level best for students at King Solomon.”
Ms Shuter controversially took over at King Solomon in September 2013 after admitting misconduct relating to expenses while at Kynaston Community.
The claims included charging the academy £7,000 for her 50th birthday celebrations.
Two rival petitions were recently set up by parents, with one calling for her to remain in her current job, and another insisting she should be sacked.
