Calls have been made to introduce traffic-calming measures in a ‘dangerous’ road used as a key rat-run.

People living in Chingford Lane, which connects Chingford with Woodford Green, say motorists regularly break the 30mph speed limit, putting children, who use the road to catch the 675 bus to school, in danger.

Woodford Green MP Iain Duncan-Smith met neighbours on Friday afternoon and has joined the campaign.

He said: “This road is an accident waiting to happen and I have written to the council to insist that a pedestrian crossing and speed control measures are introduced.”

Waltham Forest council has been asked to comment.
