About £1million has been spent on upgrading beds at King George Hospital.
The electric adjustable beds were installed this week at the hospital in Goodmayes.
All mattresses have been replaced and there are new trolleys for the emergency department and cots for the children’s ward.
According to the Barking Havering Redbridge University Trust (BHRUT), which runs the hospital, the measure is part of a continued drive to improve patient care and reduce pressure sores.
BHRUT was recently referred to the Health Secretary after it was judged to have failed to provide an adequate plan to deal with a £38million pound debt - the second biggest in the country.
The quality of care provided at the hospital in Goodmayes was previously criticised by the Care Quality Commission.
