An estimated 5,000 people attended a "successful" festival this weekend.

Wanstead Festival 2014 was held on Sunday between 11am and 5pm on Christchurch Green, in High Street, Wanstead.

Attractions included live bands, a cycle circuit, a classic car show, a climbing wall and yoga.

The first ever Gladiators winner, Weininger Irwin, was also there promoting his horizontal slide which was used for races between competitors.

Wanstead and Snaresbrook Rotary Club had a stall selling cakes and one of its members, David Etherton, sold around 80 of his clock collection to raise £250 for Aspray House Care Home in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, and Lewy Body Dementia Society.

He said: “Overall the festival was very successful, I would say the most successful ever in terms of the amount of people there, by 3pm it was absolutely packed.

“I was impressed by the activities and exhibitions on offer, the man performing the trapeze walk was excellent and we all had a good look at the classic cars.

"As a club it was successful too, the final figure has not been confirmed, but we raised a good amount of money for charity and the clocks were very popular."

Redbridge Mayor Cllr Ashley Kissin was at the event and was impressed by the classic car exhibition which included a 1932 Morris Minor.

“The weather was very kind to us and I strolled around the event meeting visitors and stallholders.

“On show were several classic cars some of them which I remember and reminded me of my youth, they were all in excellent condition.”
