Repairs toflood defences in a park are set to start.

A joint report by the Environment Agency and Redbridge council detailed the plans to repair the 80m embankment in Ray Park, in Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green.

The 80m long embankment next to the River Roding will be built to a height of 1m, and the work is due to commence on Monday.

The report said there was a 1.3% probability, one in 75, of a flood occurring in any given year from the River Roding.

The river was repeatedly placed on flood alert in December and January this year and the last major flooding incident was in 2000.

The report said: “We have identified a low spot within Ray Park where the embankment has settled over time.

“This has opened a route for flood flows from the River Roding into the residential Woodford area.

“To close this flood route, we will be repairing the embankment by restoring the height of the lowest section.

"Regrettably, our work will cause minor disruption to park users for which we take this opportunity to apologise."
