A school will stay closed tomorrow after part of the ceiling fell down.
This morning, mystery surrounded the closure of Ray Lodge Primary School, in Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green.
A handwritten note had been placed at the entrance to the school saying the closure was "due to an emergency situation".
There were reports that parents were being asked to not phone the school to keep lines free.
A statement from Ray Lodge Primary School released this afternoon explained that it was closed due to "part of an internal ceiling falling down".
The school was closed as a precautionary measure and in an email to governors, shown to the Guardian, it was confirmed it will remain closed for at least tomorrow too.
An email to governors read: "Ray Lodge Primary School will remain closed tomorrow whilst contractors undertake repair works to the damaged ceiling and check the safety of other ceilings throughout the school.
"By the end of tomorrow, we hope to be clear as to whether there are other areas in the school where urgent remedial works need to take place.
"The headteacher has advised that she is looking to re-open the school on Wednesday, once confirmation has been received that it is safe to do so.
"Parents have been informed that the school will remain closed tomorrow and this is also on the school’s website."
