Residents could have a chance to suggest how thousands of pounds of money for local development is spent under new proposals.

In a report due to be discussed by a Redbridge council committee, residents may be given the chance to put forward suggestions in an annual survey on how 15 per cent of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is spent.

CIL money is received from developers as a condition of planning permission to offset the impact new builds will have on local services and facilities.

The money can help pay for schools, leisure centres, health care facilities, transport, and public realm projects.

Labour Cllr Helen Coombe, cabinet member for planning and regeneration, said: “It’s vitally important to us that this money is spent on projects that most benefit our residents.

“It’s only right that residents and businesses get the chance to suggest how it is spent.

“The annual consultation will ensure they have a real stake and will help to shape improvements in their local area and across the borough.”

The issue will be debated in the council's Neighbourhoods and Community Services committee on the evening of November 5 at Redbridge town hall, in Ilford.
