A garden has been transformed for charity today with all manner of ghouls and ghasts celebrating Halloween.

Snaresbrook ward Cllr Colin Cronin is raising money for Royal British Legion's poppy appeal by transforming his front garden in Addison Road, Wanstead.

The glow-in-the-dark display, involving skeletons, ghosts, spiders and more, was set up in preparation for the arrivial of trick and treaters tonight.

He said: "I do it every year but this is the first time I am choosing to capitalise on it by making a bit money for charity at the same time.

"This is the eighth time I have done it and the display has increased in size as I have gathered more and more over the years.

"It is all a bit weird and wacky, but it only takes a morning's work to get it all up and it is a bit of light-hearted fun.

"As an Irish person I have always celebrated Halloween and now it seems the festival is gradually gathering momentum here."

Cllr Cronin wants as many people as possible to visit the display tonight for Halloween evening as the sun goes down.

He said: "It looks far better at night so I want to encourage people to come and have a look and also bang on the door and give some money to charity.

"Kids seem to enjoy it and everyone on Addison Road gets involved, we are all looking forward to it."
