A public consultation has been launched on plans that could quadruple the density of housing in Wanstead and Woodford.

An option being consideered by Redbridge council could see large scale developments in traditionally suburban “major corridors” in Woodford Green, South Woodford and Wanstead.

Other options on the table include building on existing, unspecified “parcels” of green belt land, and developing Oakfield playing fields in Fencepiece Road, Ilford.

There are a number of consultation events being planned, including a display explaining the options today in the foyer of Sainsbury's supermarket in George Lane, South Woodford, from 4pm to 6pm

On Monday, a drop-in session will be held at Wanstead Library, in Spratt Hall Road, from 5pm to 8pm.

Another session is planned at Woodford Green Library, in Snakes Lane West, on November 25, from 1pm to 3pm

A public meeting has been arranged as part of the Conservative oppostion's “Save our Suburbs” campaign on the evening of December 1 at Woodford Parish Church Memorial Hall, in High Road, South Woodford.

The campaign was dismissed as “gesture-politics” by Jas Athwal, the Labour leader of Redbridge council.

The consultation will end on December 22 and a survey can be accessed here.
