British Transport Police (BTP) have issued a correction regarding a convicted sex offender jailed for sexually assaulting a woman on the tube twice.

It was initially reported Mohibur Rahman of Ligonier Street in Shoreditch, was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on Friday to 16 months in jail after being found guilty of two counts of sexual assault on October 9.

He was in fact sentenced to eight months for each offence, both to run concurrently.

The 35-year-old is also prohibited from using the Central Line for five years between the hours of 7am and 10am and 4pm and 7pm, and banned from entering Holborn station on weekdays.

His victim, a 28-year-old woman from Ilford, was groped by Rahman onboard a train between Chancery Lane and Bank station on February 3.

She was targeted by Rahman again on an escalator at Holborn Station on February 20.

BTP officers discovered from Rahman's Oyster card history that he had made several short journeys but had taken vast amounts of time to touch out.

Detective Constable Darren Davies said: "We take all sexual offences seriously and we are pleased that Rahman has been locked away for this crime and that we successfully were granted the order banning him from parts of the Tube network.

"The victim was left extremely distressed and angered by this assault but, we are extremely grateful to her for coming forward and reporting the incident, which allowed us to carry out an investigation and bring Rahman to justice."
