A drama centre celebrated its 45th anniversary with an event last week.

Over 130 guests watched a short film which showcased the Redbridge Drama Centre’s heritage in Churchfields, South Woodford.

The film was followed by drinks, a buffet and music spanning five decades at the event last Saturday.

The centre boasts 300 members and offers weekly classes in drama, circus and musical theatre to all ages.

It was one of just a handful of organisations to receive an increase in funding from the Arts Council in the last round of awards.

Leader of Redbridge council, Cllr Jas Athwal, said: “The drama centre is truly an international treasure. We in Redbridge are truly blessed.”

Cllr Wes Streeting, deputy leader of the council, added: “I don’t think that Redbridge really knows how lucky we are to have this drama centre.

“The more people we can get through this door as participants and spectators, the better.

“It’s absolutely vital that this drama centre is something that is cherished, nurtured and protected.”
