A historian spoke about her research yesterday as a club's guest speaker.
Janet Wallace attended the Wanstead and Snaresbrook Rotary club lunch at County Hotel, in Oak Hill, Woodford Green.
She was speaking about the 'Gretna Girls', a group of women who moved to a Scottish farmyard in the First World War, with a series of factories to make up for the shortage of munitions.
The town grew to accomodate around 20,000 people by 1917.
