A trial date has been set for two men accused of attacking two traffic wardens in Woodford Green.

Jamie Mitten, 30, of Bridle Path in Woodford Green and John Williams, 30, of Malan Square in Rainham pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault be beating at Barkingside Magistrates Court this morning.

They are accused of allegedly attacking enforcement officer's Mizahid Miah and Nazmul Haque after one of them tried to issue a ticket in The Broadway, Woodford Green, on August 20.

Police were called to the scene near Woodford Tube station following at 2.40pm to reports of an assault which was witnessed by several bystanders including several children.

Defending Mitten, solicitor Laury Mullins said: "No unlawful violence was used and any contact was done so in self-defence."

The traffic wardens were treated at the scene for paramedics for bruising to the face and limbs and both of them refused to be taken to hospital.

Both wardens, who have only recently returned to work, will provide evidence at the trial set for March 23 2015 at Romford Magistrates Court.

Prosecutor Andrea Scantlebury called for a condition on their bail not to come into contact with enforcement officers patrolling The Broadway, but this was denied by magistrate Steve D'Cunha.

Williams's solicitor Mr Boland added: "There are no reasonable grounds to add a condition, no circumstances have changed.

"My client visits The Broadway frequently as his family resides in the area. He attended the police station voluntarily after the incident and is anxious to clear his name."

The pair have been released on unconditional bail until the trial next year.
