People celebrating Christmas this year have been warned against the dangers of cooking while drunk.

The London Fire Brigade has urged people to refrain from cooking while under the influence of alcohol, saying there were around seven cooking fires a day last December.

The brigade pointed out that two fires a day happen after Londoners have been drinking.

Three-quarters of alcohol-related fires are caused by cooking under the influence and over half of these fires happen because someone fell asleep.

London Fire Brigade commissioner, Ron Dobson said: “Drunk cooking could lead you to remember this year’s Christmas party for all the wrong reasons.

“If people cook during the festive period under the influence of alcohol they could be putting themselves and the people they love in danger.”
