The best performing primary schools in Wanstead and Woodford have been revealed.

The league tables, showing the performance of 11-year-olds at primary schools across the country, were published today by the Department for Education.

The average in England of pupils achieving level four is 79 per cent, and every primary school in Wanstead and Woodford either met or were rated above this level.

Pupils are assessed in reading, writing, and maths and were expected to reach a level four standard.

Level four indicates that they can spell properly, start to use grammatically complex sentences and employ joined up handwriting in English.

In maths, they are able to multiply and divide whole numbers by 10 or 100 and use simple fractions and percentages.

Schools are expected to ensure 65 per cent of pupils achieve level four or above in reading, writing, and maths.

The best scoring school in Wanstead and Woodford, was Churchfields junior, in Churchfields, South Woodford, with 98 per cent of its 120 pupils achieving level four and 41 per cent achieving level five.

Our Lady of Lourdes school, in Chestnut Drive, Wanstead, had 93 per cent of its 58 pupils reach the mark, with 41 per cent attaining level five.

Of the 60 pupils at St Anthony’s Catholic, in Mornington Road, Woodford Green, 92 per cent achieved a level four and 50 per cent achieved a level five.

Wells school, in Barclay Oval, Woodford Green, had 95 per cent of its 44 pupils achieve a level four and 39 per cent a level five.

Last of the top five, of the 89 pupils at Aldersbrook school, in Harpenden Road, Wanstead, 90 per cent achieved a level four and 36 per cent achieved a level five.
