The Deputy Mayor for policing in London has formally announced his plan to become the next mayor of London.

Stephen Greenhalgh is bidding to become the Conservative candidate in 2016, replacing Boris Johnson who is to stand as an MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip at the next election.

Greenhalgh is the former leader of Hammersmith & Fulham council.

During his time at City Hall he has overseen massive cuts to police funding, which has resulted in the closure of many police stations, but claims to have improved frontline policing.

He has vowed to tackle the cost of housing in the capital, cut fares on public transport and regenerate deprived areas.
