A TOY manufacturer has been fined after a nine-year-old boy was nearly blinded by an exploding joke pen.
Funnyman Products Ltd of Cranbrook Road, Gants Hill, Ilford, was fined £5,264.70 yesterday by Southend magistrates for supplying unsafe toys.
Daniel Snelling from Southend was in agony after alkaline pellits shot out from the pen and smashed him in the eye.
The shop that sold him the pen, Gaiety Bazaar in Southend, was also fined £2,700 after pleading guilty at a previous hearing.
