A 21 year-old South Woodford man has appeared at the Old Bailey accused of stabbing to death a shopkeeper during a botched robbery.
Idris Jaulim of Waverley Road, denies murdering 66 year-old Arulanantham Jayasundarakumar during a late night raid on the Jena convenience store in Newbury Park in April last year.
Mr Arulanantham, who had dropped into the shop to visit a friend minutes before the robbery, died from a single stab wound to the stomach after trying to intervene.
The Sri Lankan had only arrived in the UK weeks before to live with his wife and son in Ilford.
The trial continues.
