A WOMAN living in Redbridge has been diagnosed with swine flu.

Her name, age and location within the borough has not yet been revealed by health bosses.

However NHS London have confirmed she had recently returned from travelling abroad.

The nationwide total of people who have caught the illness is now up to 134.

Of those, 71 are in London.

A spokesman for NHS London said: "NHS London continues to advise residents in the capital that unless they have flu-like symptoms, are being tested for swine flu or have been advised otherwise, there is no need to stop their normal everyday activities, such as going to work or school.

"We continue to remind the public that the best protective measure is to use a tissue to catch your sneezes, throw all used tissues away, and to regularly wash your hands.

"If anyone is worried, we would encourage them to call the national swine flu information line on 0800 1513 513.

"If a person has flu like symptoms, they should stay at home and contact NHS Direct on 08454647 or phone their GP."

A spokesman for Redbridge NHS said that the woman had been prescribed an anti-viral drug.

He added: "Cases of swine flu in the UK have so far been mild and the national strategy of containing the spread with anti-virals appears to have been effective in reducing symptoms and preventing further spread of the infection.

"NHS Redbridge is working with Redbridge Council to ensure detailed plans are in place to cope with a possible flu outbreak in the borough.

"The flu team is meeting regularly to review the situation and ensure that public services continue to run smoothly."
