ALDERSBROOK: Cemetery to feature in vampire movie

THE GOTHIC Victorian splendour of a Redbridge cemetery has been used as the atmospheric backdrop for a new vampire movie.

The City of London Cemetery, in Aldersbrook, will feature in horror 'Brit flick,' Dead Cert next year after part of the blood thirsty film was shot in its ornate chapel and crematorium.

The site, which is London's largest public burial ground, has been regularly used a film location down the years, with gangster movies, The Long Good Friday - starring Bob Hoskins - and The Young Americans - starring Harvey Keitel and Viggo Mortensen - among the best-known.

Dead Cert is based on a turf war between a group of British criminals and Eastern European gangsters, who turn out to be vampires - starring Dexter Fletcher, Jason Flemyng and former Eastenders star Billy Murray.

Cemetery manager, Gary Burks, said it is no surprise the site is such a popular film set.

He said: "This is a very attractive location. We've had several films and television series shot here.

"Billy Murray was here recently with a film crew using the crematorium and the chapel. They were shooting here for a full day and were here until quite late.

"The site is very photogenic so it's understandable that companies would want to film here.

"There aren't many places around with the same look as this cemetery."

The cemetery is also the final resting place of several celebrities from the past, including the former England football team captain, Bobby Moore.

Dead Cert is due to hit the cinemas in 2010.

Karl Marx is in Highgate, although along with Bobby Moore there are some famous people in the City Cemy at Aldersbrook - two Ripper victims for example. It's a gorgeous cemetery with lovely trees - one of my first blogs for this website was about what a lovely place it is to visit.
