REDBRIDGE: Volunteers get helping hand with online networking site

VOLUNTEERS looking to link up with other like-minded residents for community projects have been given a helping hand with the launch of an innovative online networking site.

The 'Pledgebank' facility will enable people to post their ideas for new initiatives on the council's website Redbridge i, giving others the chance to sign up for them.

A council spokesman said: "For example, a resident might say, 'I’ll organise a donations drive for local charity shops, if five other people promise to donate one item each.'

"Other residents can then sign up to the pledge, with their support providing added impetus to see the commitment through.

"The Pledgebank facility is managed by the Redbridge Council for Voluntary Service and is based on the notion that people are more likely to act on their good ideas if they feel they are supported by others.

"As 2010 gets underway, it may prove to be just the ticket to help Redbridge residents make a successful and community-focused New Year’s resolution."

I wanted to go to redbridge.gov.uk all this weekend, but the website was closed down all weekend! When going to the site all I got was a time out message in my web broswer - Zippo, Zilch, Nothing! There has been no explanation whatsoever! Bit of a contrast to the fantastic promotion we see above isn't it?

Yes, and a very popular facility it is too. 4 of the 6 pledges are "tests" and the other 2 have expired.
