A SOUTH Woodford restaurant is up for an award for the 'perfect' portion of chips.

George's Fish and Souvlaki Bar, in George Lane, could win the award as part of National Chip Week if members of the public choose its chips as the best across the UK.

Owner George Nicola said: “We've been taking part for three years. All over the country, people are voting.

“They'll announce the winner on February 15.”

Mr Nicola's restaurant was crowned finest fryer in London last year, coming fourth across the UK.

The Mayor of Redbridge, Cllr Thomas Chan, will visit George's to launch National Chip Week on February 16 and Mr Nicola is also set to appear on Greek television station Hellenic TV.

Cllr Chan will also present the award if George's sees off its competition.

National Chip Week takes place from February 15 to 21, during which time Mr Nicola will be donating all his profits to the Mayor's charities, ReBEP and the Alzheimer's Society.
