HUNDREDS of mourners packed a Redbridge church yesterday (Tuesday) for the funeral of a popular young woman - who was run over and killed just weeks before her first wedding anniversary.

At least 300 friends and relatives gathered at St Thomas of Canterbury Roman Catholic Church in Woodford Green High Road to bid a final farewell to Fiona Daniels, who died after being hit by a car on Monday January 18.

The 29-year-old - who is thought to have been jogging at the time of the accident in Woodford Green High Road near the junction with Forest Approach - had been due to celebrate her first year of marriage to husband Matt within the next few weeks.

Loved ones are said to have paid moving tributes to Mrs Daniels during the funeral service, and later at Parndon Wood Crematorium.

Gordon Vale, her former neighbour in St John's Court, Buckhurst Hill, said: "There were so many people at the service.

"So many of Fiona's friends from (Trinity Catholic High) school were there.

"There were people breaking down and crying during the service.

"She was a very popular girl."

A poem on the back of the order of service from the funeral read: "You can shed tears because she has gone or you can smile because she has lived.

"You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back or you can open your eyes and see all she has left behind."

Donations were made to the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity and the London Air Ambulance by those who attended the service.

The driver of a Ford Focus which was involved in the accident has been questioned by police but is not facing any criminal charges.
