A MAN and a woman have been jailed following a raid on a cannabis factory in a quiet residential street.

Pauline Than Nguyen, 36, and Quang Van Vu, 60, were caught by police during the bust at a house in Wansford Road, Woodford Green in January last year.

Officers from Roding Valley Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) arrested the pair on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and illegally abstracting electricity.

Police have yet to reveal the estimated value of the cannabis seized.

Ms Nguyen, who lived at the property, pleaded guilty to the charges last year and was sentenced to two years in prison.

She is due to be deportated on her release from jail.

Mr Van Vu, of no fixed address, denied the charges but was found guilty on both counts at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday March 10.

He was sentenced to three years in prison for growing cannabis and six months for stealing electricity.

A police spokeswoman said: "This sends out a strong message to those thinking about growing illegal drugs and stealing electricity to do so."
