MORE details have emerged about the hit-and-run accident in which a seven-year-old boy was left fighting for his life after being dragged under a van.
The boy was hit by a blue van while crossing Leyswood Drive in Ilford on Wednesday, July 28, at around 5:15pm.
Eyewitnesses told police that the driver, who is described as white with spiky blond hair, drove on for approximately 20 yards with the boy still under the vehicle.
After the boy became freed, the driver continued for a further 30 yards before stopping and walking back to where the victim lay in the road.
The driver then ran back to his van and made off, turning left onto the A12.
The victim was taken to a central London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Detective Inspector Simon Sharp said: “Leyswood Drive is a residential street and not a cut-through, so it is possible that the driver is local or had been delivering in the area.
“We urgently appeal to him to come forward. We would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened.”
Police from the Road Death Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath traffic garage are investigating the incident.
Anyone with information should contact police on 020 8597 4874.
