AN objection has been raised against a former Inland Revenue office being transformed.

Charteris House in Charteris Road, Woodford Green, could be knocked down and rebuilt as a mixed use development if Redbridge Council grants permission.

On Tuesday the council's Conservation Advisory Panel met and discussed the proposal from developers Havenridge (Britannia) Ltd.

The application, which was registered on July 21, is to demolish the existing building and build a three and a half storey building with retail use at the ground floor, office use at first floor and nine self contained flats above with associated parking.

The Guardian spoke with residents in Charteris Road days after the application was lodged and the plans were largely welcomed with residents arguing that the building had stood empty for years and was currently an eyesore.

Members of the Conservation Advisory Panel agreed that an objection be raised on the grounds that the building would be visually intrusive and out-of-keeping with the Conservation Area.

The council's regional planning committee west will make a decision at a later date.
