THOUSANDS flocked to Wanstead for the ninth annual festival today.

Thousands came together today (August 19) for the ninth annual festival to take over Christchurch Green, in High Street, Wanstead.

As well as the standard stalls and family activities across the park, the festival also showcased some of Britain's classic motors.

Former Leytonstone fire-fighter Ken Bell, 59, returned to Wanstead for the first time in 10 years since his move away from the area.

And with him, he brought a classic Bond Bug three-wheeler - one of the more unusual attractions on the day.

He said: “Ever since I retired from the fire brigade, I've been interested in doing up classic cars.

“My wife and I decided to come back for the festival just for the nostalgia of it.”

Children took part in rock climbing and cycling at the centre of the park, while adults camped out on deck chairs for music played live on stage.

Shakira Greaves, events manager for Redbridge, said: “This is all about the community coming together in a celebration of Wanstead.

“The festival really suits Wanstead – it exposes people to new services open in the area.

“It just keeps getting bigger and better.”

A flower show was also hosted by the Christ Church.

The venue was splayed out with different floral designs.

Reverend Liz Horwell said: “The festival is a inspiration. It goes from strength to strength every year.”
