ANGRY parents say they are still waiting for action two months after calling on the council to introduce parking restrictions on a busy road.

More than 600 people signed a petition demanding action be taken on a section of Inmans Row at the junction with Monkhams Lane in Woodford Green, where children are encouraged to cross by painted footprints on the pavement.

The council installed a speed platform to slow down traffic, but there are no parking restrictions in place to stop people parking either side during the school run.

Residents living near the platform have been consulted about possible restrictions, but parents say they have heard nothing since handing in their petition at an Area Two Committee meeting in November.

Kathy Hart, 46, of Monkhams Drive, who organised the petition said: “Apparently all they are offering to do is put parking restrictions on the platform.

“I would have thought they would have contacted parents, but they don’t seem to care.”

Mrs Hart wrote to the council as long ago as October requesting action.

She received a reply from the Highways Department telling her that keep clear markings would be painted within two weeks.

But she said: “That was months ago, and nothing was ever done.”

Fellow parent Sarah Poulter-Patel, 36, of Princes Avenue, said: “They should have spoken to all the local schools and parents about this by now.

“I’m not convinced they will ever get round to doing anything. It just doesn’t seem to be a priority.”

Residents living near the platform want it removed altogether because they say their houses are being shaken every time vehicles cross it.

Gillian Thompson, 70, of the Green, said: “We have said we would like something done to make it safer for children to cross.

“But there was nothing about the flow of the traffic coming down Inmans Row.

“Sainsbury’s lorries travelling to the new shop in the Broadway have started using the road as a rat run.

“You feel the whole house shaking very early in the morning when their lorries go past.”

The Council has been asked for an update on the situation.
