A SERVICE that helps young people to steer away from a life of crime has been awarded top marks in a recent inspection.
The HM Inspectorate of Probation gave Redbridge Council’s Youth Offending Service (YOS) an 80 per cent mark for its work safeguarding young offenders, 83 per cent for its work to prevent them reoffending and 69 per cent for its work to help protect the public.
The service is made up of social workers, youth workers, police officers and education specialists who work with offenders aged 18 and under to help them change their attitudes and behaviour and move away from a life of crime.
In her report Liz Calderban, HM Chief Inspector of Probation, said, ”We found the YOS staff group and managers to be enthusiastic and committed to delivering high quality services to children and young people.
“The YOS was working with children and young people who presented as both potential victims and perpetrators of violence. Operating in this difficult context, the YOS had achieved some good results. Overall, we consider this to be a creditable set of findings.”
