THOUSANDS of new school places are to be created to deal with demand for primary education in the borough.

At a meeting of the council’s cabinet last night (September 11) it was agreed that 1260 permanent primary places and a further 1260 temporary places would be created by September 2013.

The Council will now consult on the proposed expansion of three schools: Chadwell Primary School, Barley Lane Primary School and Downshall Primary School, which will accommodate 630 of those permanent places.

There are also plans to provide 1260 permanent primary places and 1260 temporary places in September 2014 and a further 840 permanent and temporary places from September 2015.

Cabinet also agreed to begin a consultation on the expansion of Woodbridge High School and Mayfield School to provide 900 additional secondary school places in the borough.
