POLICE are hunting for a convicted rapist who they believe is hiding in Ilford after failing to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
Somalian, Mahad Cabdi Hussain, 23, was found guilty in his absence on September 25 of three counts of rape against a 23-year-old woman in Upton Park.
Police believe that Hussain may now be staying with family members in the Ilford area. He is approximately 6ft 2ins tall, and of slim build.
Detective Sergeant Healy from Newham's Sapphire Unit said " Hussain has been convicted of the rape of a vulnerable female. We would urge anyone with information to urgently contact police so that the courts can impose a suitable sentence for these serious crimes."
Two other people, Destiny Ekanga, 19, and Halima Ahmed, 20, were also involved in the rape of this woman. They have both been found guilty of seven counts of causing a female to engage in sexual activity without consent, battery and unlawful imprisonment.
Sentencing of Hussain is due to take place on October 19.
Anybody with information on Hussain's whereabouts should contact Det Sgt Gerard Healy on 8217 5248.
