A ROADSHOW aimed at celebrating the London Olympics and inspiring young people to get involved with the Games came to Leyton on Monday.

The Get Set London Roadshow, organised by the London Development Agency (LDA) and London 2012, is touring all 33 London boroughs.

At the Score Centre in Oliver Road, young people took part in sporting activities and found out about job opportunities on Olympic projects.

Young people had a go on rowing machines, and played games, they also tested the strength of their hands and their blood pressure using gadgets.

A map of the Olympic park and screens showing the tourism benefits of the Games were also inspected by visitors.

LDA head of Olympic opportunities Tom Travers said: "This a fun way of introducing people to the benefits of the Olympics and encouraging them to participate in sport."

Mr Travers said that the Olympics will create about 10,000 construction jobs, 3,500 temporary jobs during the Games and between 10,000 and 12,000 jobs in legacy.

He said that the aim is that between 15 and 20 per cent of the workforce will be drawn from the five London boroughs, including Waltham Forest.

He said that jobs can't be ringfenced to local people but that facilities such as the Plant Training Academy, at Eton Manor, will give Olympic contractors a place where they can recruit local jobseekers.
