A DOCTOR who prescribed the wrong drugs and performed surgery without qualifications is not currently practicing in the borough, Waltham Forest Primary Care Trust (PCT) has revealed.

Dr Arun Kuman Rauniar, a GP at Vicarage Road Medical Centre, in Leyton, performed inappropriate surgery including circumcision at the surgery and falsely claimed to be a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a General Medical Council (GMC) ruling found.

The GMC panel ruled that Dr Rauniar cannot practice without supervision for two years and has to undergo retraining, but he was not struck off.

A PCT spokeswoman saidL "The PCT was naturally concerned to discover that Dr. Rauniar's fitness to practice is seriously impaired.

"It is evident from the GMC's decision that they do not consider Dr. Rauniar fit to be running a practice on his own.

"The PCT has written to Dr Rauniar to confirm his future intentions.

"The PCT would like to reassure patients that it takes this matter very seriously and their safety is paramount."

If patients have concerns they can contact the PCT Patient Advice and Liaison service on 8539 3939 or by emailing pals@wf-pct.nhs.uk
