Robbers disguised voices in armed raid on off-licence

1:55pm Friday 4th May 2001

ARMED robbers who took more than £3,000 from a Barnehurst off-licence affected Irish accents in a bid to disguise their identities during their terrifying attack, say police.

Officers are hunting for the masked pair who threatened the 46-year-old shop assistant with a semi-automatic hand-gun during the raid at 11.00pm on April 30.

They handcuffed the Southfleet woman with plastic cable-ties and bundled her into a store room before the gun-toting men escaped with the cash.

The assistant is still unable to give a full statement to police following her ideal, but police understand that the Irish accent used by one of the men was fake.

The pair, one with short brown hair and the other with medium length bleached blonde hair, escaped on foot after the raid on the Midfield Parade store.

Anybody with any information on the robbery or the two men should call Bexleyheath Police on 020 8284 9144 or alternatively they should call Crimstoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
