A MAN has been charged with the murder of Anthony Kearney, who died after being stabbed on Saturday in Walthamstow.

Ulysses Carbon, 29, is due to appear at Waltham Forest Magistrates Court in Forest Road, Walthamstow, this morning.

Mr Carbon was one of four people arrested after Mr Kearney was found in the street suffering from a stab wound.

The other three, a man who was arrested near the crime scene, a 34-year-old man, and a 32-year-old man arrested later on Saturday, have been released without charge.

Det Chief Insp John Macdonald, who is leading the investigation, said that no further action was due to be taken against them.

Police and ambulance crews were called at 9.55am to Forest Road, after reports that a man had been stabbed.

The London Ambulance Service sent a fast response car, an ambulance and a HEMS air ambulance.

But, despite a 45-minute battle to save his life, Mr Kearney was declared dead by the HEMS doctor.

A post-mortem examination held at Walthamstow Coroner's Court yesterday found the cause of death to be a single stab wound to the thigh.

DCI Macdonald said death from such stab wounds was not uncommon, because a major artery had been punctured.

Forest Road was closed for several hours on Saturday as forensic teams carried out close searches of the road and gardens lining the street.

Officers also conducted door-to-door investigations.

An incident room has opened at Barking under DCI John Macdonald.

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 8345 3985 or if you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
