A RED Cross worker who led the King's Cross team of first-aiders and befrienders after the July 7 bombings will revisit the scene this year.

One year on from the terrorist attacks on the London transport system, Philip Roberts from Walthamstow is co-ordinating the Red Cross presence at the sites of last year's bombs.

The team will be offering practical help and comfort to anyone who feels affected by the anniversary.

Mr Roberts, 32, said: "7/7 will always remain in my mind because of the part we played in helping those caught up in the King's Cross bombing.

"Many needed first aid, others were traumatised and needed some time to take in what had happened.

"I feel proud of whatever small part I played in helping people recover from that nightmare."

Mr Roberts has been a volunteer with the Red Cross for over four years and has recently become a member of staff, co-ordinating the charity's emergency response to numerous incidents and events across London all year round.

He said that it was really important that the Red Cross was in London on the anniversary of the bombings to help anyone affected by memories of last year's horrific events.

He added: "Everyone reacts differently and we can never predict what to expect, but the Red Cross will be there to help anyone who needs it, even if that's only a listening ear."
