Man's eye socket fractured in bottle attack in Harold Road, Leytonstone

A man had his eye socket fractured when he was hit by a bottle during an attack in Leytonstone.

It happened close to the car park in Harold Road at 5.45pm on New Year's Eve, although details have only been released now.

Police say the 34-year-old victim's son had earlier that afternoon been approached by three men in a nearby takeaway.

When the man later spotted the group in Church Lane he went up to them to speak about the conversation.

He then went to his car and drove round the corner to Harold Road, where he got out.

But the three men followed him, ran up and hit him with the bottle before making off.

A Met spokeswoman said: "The suspects are all males, aged between 16 and 20 years and are believed to be Somalian.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this assault to contact police.

"Contact DC Lee Nelson on 020 3276 0966. If you wish to remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

You tell us when the ideal age was in terms of policing and we will look up the statistics for that period.

We know Leytonstone is now a completely unsafe place to walk around - unless you walk along with a few pitbulls - but why did this horrendous crime take over three weeks to be made public knowledge?

Because by the time they release the news, everyone has forgotten about it and are dreading the next attack.

Unfortunately, People like Helen and Isayanything wander about wearing Cranberry Tinted Spectacles thinking that everything is Utopian and advocate and support Police closing down Police Stations and support the Police usage cafes to gather as a base, waiting to respond after Criminals have long gone, rather than Patrol as a Preventative measure.

'Completely unsafe'? Utter rubbish.

Leytonstone might have its problems - this is London - but it's hardly The South Bronx.

With all that charm you could probably sell holidays to the Costa del Forest Gate.

Forest Gate? Never had any reason to go there so I wouldn't know.

Always found Leytonstone to be a great place, and in the last couple of years it's come on leaps and bounds.

It has become so, some parts are worse than Hackney especially the dreaded South Part beyond the Bridge. It really is a Bridge too far there.

I would love to see the part of Leytonstone you are talking about.
Because the High Road, Church Lane, Grove Green is a '#+* hole. It has got worse over the years.
I remember I used to love Leytonstone back in the 1980's and early 90's.

Hotredman - i'm going to pretend you're not one of Cornbeefbore's sock puppets - I live South of the bridge.

I really wish the council would do something about all the piles of rotting gangland murder victims round here. Sometimes it's hard to get up the street to visit my crack dealer.

You must have taken your Cranberry Tinted Spectacles off?

Put them back on, you will feel a lot better.

You deserve a medal also. Well done for persevering.
